Finse sauna is one of the most popular saunas all over the world. It is usually made of wood with different kind of stuff inside. Couples, families, group of friends, colleagues are the common persons who always visit sauna area.
The Finse sauna plays a major role in the lives of every Finn. Before entering the sauna, the custom is to wash one’s body clean and then one enters a heated room in nude condition.
The heat in the room will be quite high. This is to ensure that the body becomes so hot that it has to produce a lot of sweat. The hot room also has a place where some heated stones are placed. Over these stones, some water will be thrown in order to produce steam which helps to increase the amount of moisture as well as the heat within the room.
Sometimes, Finns, when they use a sauna, will take some leafy silver birch boughs which they will use to gently strike their bodies in order to relax the muscles in the body. This beating with the bough also helps to calm any ill effects of a mosquito bite. When the body becomes so hot that it cannot bear to remain in the heated room the practice is to jump into a lake or into a sea or even into a swimming pool or they take a shower in order to cool down.
During winter, Finns are not averse to getting out of the Finse sauna to take a roll in the snow outside. They might even dig a hole in the snow and then they will get into this hole until they are able to properly cool their bodies down. After all this, it is customary to sit in a dressing room or on the porch to enjoy some sausages and beer or mineral water.
